Baska is rich at objects of cultural interest: from old buildings up to sacral cultural monuments. Each step between the stone houses of Baska, which can tell their century-long stories, is an experience for itself. Baska, which subsequently developed down by the sea, presents itself as an old settlement with narrow, winding streets, quaint chimney places, external staircases and arched passages. In the local centre there is the Church of Holy Trinity. It is the largest church of Baska and its environment. The church was built in the baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century.

On the cemetery hill, near the former parish church St. John (Sv. Ivan), one finds remains of the medieval settlement, which was burned down by the Venetians in 1380. Starting from here some beautiful hiking routes begin - detailed information at the tourist agencies in Baska. However, if you don't want to move farther on, you can stay here just sitting on a bank: the view from here above is indescribable!

In Baska there is also a local history museum, which contains an ethnographic collection of the whole environment.

In Jurandvor, approx. 1.5 km before Baska, there is the church of St. Lucy (Sv. Lucija) and the remains of the Benedictines monastery. In this small church the "BASCANSKA PLOCA" (inscribed slab) was found, the oldest Croatian linguistic and legal record from the 11th century (in Glagolitic letters). It records a donation by the Croatian king Zvonimir. The slab displayed in the church is a copy, the original was transferred to Zagreb. The old Glagolica letters remained in use on the island up to the beginning of the 19th century.

Further trip destinations on the island in the surrounding of 20 km:

The medieval small town is situated on a 48 meters high cliff, which appears much higher because it rises steep from the sea. Vrbnik is world-wide well known for the Croatian excellent white wine "Zlahtina" - this autochthonous wine sort grows only on the island of Krk. You should absolutely taste this traditional island wine with a "Konoba" attendance. Between the numerous cultural monuments in Vrbnik the major attractions are the "Vrbnik statute" (1388) and the illuminated First Vrbnik Missal (1642), both in the old-Croatian Glagolica.

The main city of the island Krk is located at the wind-protected west coast of a beautiful bay, surrounded by coniferous forest. Peaceful island life characterizes the port which changes each evening to a lively moving in the restaurants, bars and Cafés at the promenade.

The objects of cultural interest of the city Krk:

  • the Cathedral of the Assumption: the oldest part of the church dates from 5th or 6th century when a basilica was built on the remains of the Roman thermae. The today's cathedral from the beginning 12th century with a bell tower from 16th-18th century was rebuilt several times.
  • The old fortification (Kastel) on Kamplin was erected at the end of the 12th century and the walls and the bastions by the sea were built by Count Nikola Frankopan in the early 15th century. The Frankopans were one of the most powerful aristocratic families in Croatia.
  • small town-gate, which is mentioned 1398, the only gate that leads to the city banks.

And finally, just make a trip to the small island Kosljun in the bay of Punat, with a visit of the monastery.

Silo is a quite little place in northern part of the island Krk which attracts an increasing number of visitors.
Silo is situated in a wide bay and protected from southern and eastern winds by a long promontory.
Since the year 2008 a blue European flag is standing on the beach "Pecine" (sand and pebble), as an indication of the first-class beach and water quality.
