Culture Baska is rich at objects of cultural interest: from old buildings up to sacral cultural monuments. Each step between the stone houses of Baska, which can tell their century-long stories, is an experience for itself. Baska, which subsequently developed down by the sea, presents itself as an old settlement with narrow, winding streets, quaint chimney places, external staircases and arched passages. In the local centre there is the Church of Holy Trinity. It is the largest church of Baska and its environment. The church was built in the baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century. On the cemetery hill, near the former parish church St. John (Sv. Ivan), one finds remains of the medieval settlement, which was burned down by the Venetians in 1380. Starting from here some beautiful hiking routes begin - detailed information at the tourist agencies in Baska. However, if you don't want to move farther on, you can stay here just sitting on a bank: the view from here above is indescribable! In Baska there is also a local history museum, which contains an ethnographic collection of the whole environment. In Jurandvor, approx. 1.5 km before Baska, there is the church of St. Lucy (Sv. Lucija) and the remains of the Benedictines monastery. In this small church the "BASCANSKA PLOCA" (inscribed slab) was found, the oldest Croatian linguistic and legal record from the 11th century (in Glagolitic letters). It records a donation by the Croatian king Zvonimir. The slab displayed in the church is a copy, the original was transferred to Zagreb. The old Glagolica letters remained in use on the island up to the beginning of the 19th century.
